Chemical Looping
Chemical looping is a promising carbon capture method to reduce the energy and cost penalty of carbon capture. In a chemical looping system, an oxygen carrier (usually a metal oxide) is used to oxidize all or part of the fuel. In total oxidation, the gas leaving the fuel reactor contains mainly CO2 and H2O. After condensation of the water, the captured CO2 can be sent to utilization or storage. The reduced oxidant is re-oxidized with air, steam, or a combination of both. If hydrogen production is the goal, steam is used for reoxidation of oxygen carriers.

HIGH - carbon is reintegrated in chemical processes and used for the production of energy carriers, e.g. ammonia.
