Enzymatic Polymerization
Enzymatic Polymerization is a specific pathway to synthesize polymers by using enzymes to catalyze the reaction of monomers. Used in-vitro e. g. in polymerization, enzymes can catalyze substrates that are not of a natural source. Furthermore, by using renewable non-petrochemical resources as the initial substrate of polymeric materials, enzymatic polymerizations have the potential to significantly contribute to global sustainability without depleting vital resources.

GHG Reduction Potential
High GHG reduction potential due to the absence of fossil-based feedstock. Natural or renewable materials e. g. polysaccharides can function as starting materials and toxic, rare-metal based catalysts are replaced by enzymes to further mitigate GHG emissions.
