Sugarcane Bioplastics
Sugarcane mainly produced in tropical regions is an important product commercialized worldwide with a significant contribution to the reduction of GHG due to its potential for CO2 fixation. As a replacement for fossil-based ethanol, sugarcane ethanol is used for the production of so-called "bioplastics" (plant-based plastics) which are known to be recyclable and biodegradable to some extent. For the production of bio-based plastics, biomass serves as a source of carbon atoms in the polymeric chain. Sugar and ethanol obtained from sugar fermentation can provide such carbon.
