Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution (ISP-CWP) Establishment Phase Contributions

ISC3 as part of the UN Major Group System

The International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) is a member of the Scientific and Technological Community Major Group (STC Major Group) of the United Nations (UN). The “Major Groups” framework was established at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Rio 1992) under Agenda 21. It recognizes nine sectors of civil society, including women, youth, indigenous peoples, non-governmental organizations, local authorities, workers and trade unions, business and industry, farmers, and the scientific and technological community, as key channels for citizen participation in UN sustainable development processes. The STC Major Group provides policymakers and society with scientific and technological knowledge, supports the integration of science into international policy processes such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development or the ISP-CWP and promotes innovation and knowledge exchange.

ISC3’s membership reflects its role as an international centre that advances Sustainable Chemistry by connecting industry, academia, civil society, and policy. Through its participation in the STC Major Group, ISC3 ensures that Sustainable Chemistry is represented in global policy dialogues, contributes scientific expertise, and strengthens the link between the chemical sector and sustainable development efforts.
