Power-to-Chemicals in Peru:

Turning knowledge into industrial transformation

The transition towards a more sustainable chemical industry is not only about new technologies. It is also about people — professionals who understand the challenges of their sector and are prepared to turn knowledge into action.

This was the focus of the Training of Trainers on Power-to-Chemicals and Sustainable Chemistry, held in Peru by the Chemical Industry Committee of the National Society of Industries (SNI) in partnership with the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3).

Dr. Reinhard Joas, senior consultant and Power-to-Chemicals expert and Paola Bustillos, Capacity Development Project Manager at ISC3.

Over two intensive days, participants from industry, academia, public institutions and international cooperation came together to explore how Power-to-Chemicals and sustainable chemistry can support cleaner, safer and more future-oriented production. The discussions connected global approaches — such as renewable feedstocks, green methanol, green urea, safe and sustainable design and chemical parks — with the concrete realities and opportunities of the Peruvian chemical sector.

The training, led by Paola Bustillos, Capacity Development Project Manager at ISC3, and Dr. Reinhard Joas, senior consultant and Power-to-Chemicals expert, created space for technical exchange, practical exercises and open dialogue. Rather than focusing only on concepts, the programme encouraged participants to reflect on how these approaches can be applied, adapted and shared within their own organisations and professional networks.

A technical visit to Proquinsa, an SNI member company, added a practical perspective to the programme. Participants gained first-hand insights into production processes, technological improvements, energy-related changes and the company’s sustainability journey.

By bringing together professionals from different parts of the chemical ecosystem, the Training of Trainers contributed to building a community of multipliers for sustainable chemistry in Peru — people who can carry forward knowledge, inspire change and support the transformation of the chemical industry from within.
