Dr. Thomas Wanner

Dr. Thomas Wanner studied chemical engineering/process technology at the Technical University of Clausthal Zellerfeld and earned his doctorate in development of new polymer materials at the Technical University of Munich which he rounded off by an Executive MBA at the Mediterranean Business School in Tunis. He began his professional career at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging in Freising at the department of material development where he was responsible for the development of polymers with novel functionalities. Since his time at GIZ, he has been responsible for topics such as business development, key account management, employment promotion, academic & vocational training, private sector development, water and wastewater management and infrastructure. He has worked in Germany and abroad and held positions as director operations, project leader, and business consultant.

Anna Isabel Becker worked for several years in public affairs, political & strategic communication and campaigning on German national and European level. She studied European Studies and Political Sciences in Germany, Portugal, Austria and Australia. At ISC3 she will contribute to ISC3 mission promoting Sustainable Chemistry worldwide and will ensure that the broad range of international stakeholders from multiple sectors and levels are involved. Furthermore, Anna is engaged in increasing women representation in the public policy debate with the help of innovative online tools. With this experience she will also support ISC3 “Gender and Sustainable Chemistry Initiative” and the growth of a network. Before joining ISC3 Anna worked for a global communications consultancy.

Dr. rer. nat. Claudio Cinquemani studied Environmental Engineering in Germany, Spain and New Zealand. He additionally holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Claudio´s interest has always been in developing green and sustainable processes for industrial applications. Academic research in biochemistry and green solvents led to a position in industry, where he optimized polymer use for technical applications. Analyzing and fostering innovative ideas and entrepreneurs is his daily business. His hobbies include rock climbing and doing outdoor activities with his young family.

Juanita Halblaub has an MBA as well as a certification as “CPPM - Certified Professional Project Manager" from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. Her strong interest in Start-ups, international growth and new technologies led her to work as a consultant for economic development agencies, investment promotions as well as industrial parks and free zones from around the world. Her work included the generation of investment leads, the creation of programmes for Startups with the aim of transatlantic investment and innovation and the development of strategic partnerships with companies, government agencies and scientific institutions.

Juanita believes that entrepreneurs are bringing new ideas to the table, steering innovation, and generating change and economic growth.

Myra Rednoss studied Law and Economics at the University of Bonn and holds a Master of Law in International Law and Globalisation, with a focus on Human Rights from Maastricht University. She discovered her interest for chemistry, working for a European trade union focusing on the chemical and pharmaceutical network, as well as on health& safety for workers. With her experience in the field and on international projects, she will support ISC3 in the communications department.

Christian Ruth-Strauss is a passionate professional with over ten years of experience in communications, campaigning, brand management, and project management. After studying sports science and communications in Cologne he has worked internationally in the chemical industry and in intergovernmental relations. His experience collaborating with federal ministries, industrial federations, and the media will support ISC3 to deepen its impact.

Nadine Stöcker

Nadine Stöcker holds a bachelor’s degree in Retail Management from the European University of Applied Sciences in Brühl and a post graduate double degree in Natural Resources Management and Development from the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne and the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP) in Mexico. Nadine has been working for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) since 2017. Before joining ISC3, she coordinated a company-wide working group on Sustainable Industrial Areas (SIA), fostering networking as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). In addition, she gained regional experience in Latin America (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico), working related to climate change adaptation and rural development. At ISC3, she assumes the role of Focus Topic Manager for Science & Innovation.

Anastasia Vodianova

Anastasia Vodianova has been a valuable member of the GIZ since 2007, contributing her expertise to various projects in project management and finance/administrative roles. She studied German language and literature, holding a DAAD Scholarship for her studies at Hamburg University. Anastasia earned her master's degree in business administration in Kyrgyzstan before relocating to support ISC3 in finance management.

Jessica Gaar

Born and raised in New Zealand, Jessica Gaar studied organic chemistry and recieved her PhD from the University of Auckland where her research focused on natural product synthesis. Before joining ISC3, she completed a two-year postdoctoral research position with Bayer, in their Crop Science division, in the discovery and development of novel potential herbicides. Her passion for sustainability led her to transition to the field of Sustainable Chemistry where she now brings her expertise to ISC3 projects.

Alexis Bazzanella studied Chemistry and received his PhD from Technical University Darmstadt. As Head of Research and Project Coordination at DECHEMA he has more than 15 years of experience in the initiation, implementation and management of research and innovation programmes and projects in the chemical sector on national and European level. He is author of several technology studies on energy/resource efficient and low carbon process technologies and has been member of the editorial and management team of the European Technology Platform on Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem).

Astrid Ewaz

Astrid Ewaz is a Sustainable Chemistry Project Manager at Dechema e.V. and Event Manager at ISC3 Innovation Hub. She holds a degree from the faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz as a professional conference interpreter and translator with the working languages Italian, English, and Brazilian Portuguese, where she specialized in humane medicine. On top, Astrid also holds certificates in German Legal Language (HfWU), Digital Transformation (MIT), Design Thinking and several IT and Cybersecurity-related certificates (Open HPI), and was recently Certified as an Expert in Sustainable Finance (Frankfurt School of Finance & Management). At ISC3, Astrid has been organizing events and projects, such as IGCW Mumbai/India, Achema, Achema Pulse, Open Labs Brazil, ISC3 Innovation Challenge, and ISC3 Investor Forum since late 2019, with its latest edition as an official side event to the World Chemicals Conference 2023 (ICCM5) in Bonn.

Dr. Tom Felbeck

Tom Felbeck studied Chemical Engineering at the FH Münster and researched in the field of applied material sciences at the Institute for Optical Technologies. He worked at various research institutes, the University of Wroclaw, the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) in Berlin and the University of Aveiro. He concluded his Ph.D. in Chemistry in cooperation with the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) Münster and travelled the world 2015/2016, visiting North & South America, Australia & New Zealand and Southeast Asia. In his professional role as interdisciplinary R&D Project Manager and Technical Sales Manager in the coating, nano & micro-structuring and film processing industry, he worked with customers, suppliers and external stakeholders.In 2023, he concluded an intensive two month online course, Business Sustainability Management, at the University of Cambridge, paving the way for sustainability action.

Silvia Perez Hector graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt with a master's degree in Risk Assessment and Sustainability Management. Her strong interest in sustainable development led her to choose the interdisciplinary master's programme. Previously she earned bachelor's degree in Biomolecular Engineering from Technical University Darmstadt. Before joining ISC3, Silvia gained valuable experience in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development during her internship at GIZ in the Section Cooperation with the Private Sector.

Florencia Hoffmann

Florencia Hoffmann is an engineer and holds an MBA specialised in Renewable Energies. She has a strong professional background in the topic of energy transition and sustainability. She has held diverse leadership roles in civil associations and chambers, multinational companies, and start-ups. Her passion for change has pushed her carrier to the frontiers of innovations and sustainability. She is a founder member and former president of a women empowerment association in sustainable energies. At ISC3, she is responsible for internationalising the work of the Innovation Hub by engaging with a large international network in the field of Sustainable Chemistry.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Kümmerer is full Professor of Sustainable Chemistry and Material Resources and director of the Institute of Sustainable and Environmental Chemistry at the public Leuphana University. His research and teachings are focused on Sustainable Chemistry, Sustainable Pharmacy, Material Resources, Aquatic Environmental Chemistry, and Time in Ecology and Sustainability. He is founding and chief editor of the scientific and peer reviewed journals Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy as well as Current Opinion in Sustainable Chemistry. Furthermore, he serves as associate editor of Chemosphere and Environmental Pollution. Klaus Kümmerer serves in many national and international committees and chairs the International Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference as well as the annual Summer School on Sustainable Chemistry of ISC3.

Ann-Kathrin Amsel finished a training as a chemical laboratory technician and subsequently studied Environmental Sciences (B.Sc.) and Sustainability Science (M.Sc.) at Leuphana University Lüneburg. During her studies she specialized in environmental and Sustainable Chemistry and has gained experience in conducting inter- and transdisciplinary research. In her master thesis she worked with a combination of experimental and computational methods. At ISC3 Research & Education Hub she investigates the potential of computational methods such as QSAR (quantitative structure–activity relationship) for the implementation of Sustainable Chemistry.

Dorota Bartkowiak studied Chemistry at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland) and then attained her Ph.D. at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Before joining ISC3 her research was focused on organic, inorganic synthesis, nanomaterials and analytical chemistry. Environmental protection was always very important to her. She was involved in the organization of numerous symposiums, conferences and events to popularize science. She supports the Research & Education Hub with her multidisciplinary chemical knowledge.

Dr. Rebecca Holtmann

Rebecca Holtmann studied Chemistry at the university of Kiel. During her Ph.D. at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, she investigated the impact of UV radiation on structurally modified DNA nucleobases and elucidated the reaction and deactivation pathways of light-driven proton switches. Being a chemist today's great challenges linked to chemistry motivated her to join ISC3. Working in the Research and Education Hub now gives her the opportunity to actively contribute to a more sustainable future by further embedding Sustainable Chemistry and related topics in the academic curricula and research.

Svenja Schloß studied Food Chemistry at the University of Hamburg. After receiving her state examination, she completed her Ph.D. at the University of Hamburg in collaboration with the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin. Her research focused on the biosynthesis, isolation and characterization of bioactive secondary metabolites from fungal cultures, especially emerging mycotoxins found in protein-rich legumes. She is also a lecturer at the Institute for Sustainable Chemistry (INSC) at Leuphana University, which enables her to advance ISC3 Research & Education Hub with scientific expertise and experience in the training of next-generation scientists in the field of Sustainable Chemistry.

Christiane Papenmeyer contributes her expertise to ISC3 Research & Education Hub team, specialising in event management, organisational affairs and project controlling. She holds a degree in art history, marketing, and English from Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. Over the last decade, she has demonstrated her proficiency in the cultural sector in Hamburg, serving as a project manager for diverse cultural initiatives. Her responsibilities encompass the comprehensive management of projects, from conceptualization through financing to organisational implementation.
